Nora, the Piano Playing Kitty!

And a person standing under an oak tree is 16X more likely to be hit by lightning then a person taking refuge under a a beech tree. The oak has vertical roots which prvide a more direct route to ground water, which increases the danger during a lightning/thunder/rain storm. So yeah. Be careful. :)

The only big trees I have are evergreens and a crabapple tree. Do you think I'd be safer hiding under those or just by playing it safe in a nice, indoor environment?

I wonder of since there are so many oak trees all over florida which states someone is more likely to be struck in.

Really, you're better off not taking shelter under any tree, but we'll not go into that now...

Poplar trees roots do the same thing as oaks... they are crazy likely to be struck... also more likely to fall because their root structure doesn't tie them down to the ground very well...
